Prod 142 Technical notes week 5 and 6

  • Navigation & Viewports

    • Alt + LMB (Maya) / MMB (Blender) → Orbit view.

    • Alt + RMB (Maya) / Scroll wheel (Blender) → Zoom.

    • Alt + MMB (Maya) / Shift + MMB (Blender) → Pan.

    • Spacebar (Maya) → Switch viewports.

    • Numpad 1/3/7 (Blender) → Front/Right/Top orthographic view.

    Modelling Basics:

    • W/E/R (Maya & Blender) → Move/Rotate/Scale.

    • Tab (Blender) / F8 (Maya) → Toggle Object/Edit mode.

    • Ctrl + A (Blender) → Apply transforms (scale/rotation).

    • Insert Edge Loop Tool (Maya) / Ctrl + R (Blender) → Add edge loop.

    • Extrude (Maya: Ctrl + E / Blender: E) → Pull out faces.

    • Merge Vertices (Maya: Edit Mesh > Merge / Blender: M → At Center) → Clean up geometry

    Object Management

    • Outliner (both Maya & Blender) → Keep scene organized.

    • Shift + P (Maya) → Parent objects.

    • Ctrl + P (Blender) → Parent with object.

    UV / Texturing Maya: 

  • UV → Automatic Mapping / Planar Mapping if stuck.

  • Blender: U → Smart UV Project for quick unwraps.
