PROD142: Reflective Journal

As I did photography and art in high school for 2 years and I am a first year coming straight from high school I already had a fair bit of knowledge regarding locating certain things on all adobe software such as photoshop and InDesign.

This week I focused on getting reacquainted with InDesign for layout design and Photoshop for editing imagery. Initially, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the number of tools and panels in both programs, especially remembering shortcuts and how to control things like text flow in InDesign or layer masks in Photoshop. I mainly struggled with the MAYA software and setting up all the branches of unity I needed. But due to the help of my friends in my workshop who had used this software for many years before me, I was able to overcome the obstacles I encountered.

Discussion on Aesthetic

I’ve been reflecting on the idea of intentional minimalism in both layout and image design. Clean grids, consistent spacing, and restrained use of fonts or colours to help keep the design elegant and work in favour of the product or image you are designing. Which I remember being told by my design teacher in high school and the use of negative space for an effect.
