Technical Notes week 3 and 4

General Tips (both Maya & Photoshop): Always name your layers and objects clearly. Save iterations of your file: project_v01.ma , poster_v2.psd , etc. Use non-destructive workflows : masks in Photoshop, duplicate geometry in Maya before altering.  Maya: Object Manipulation: W – Move Tool E – Rotate Tool R – Scale Tool Q – Select Tool Ctrl + D – Duplicate Delete – Delete selected object

PROD142: Reflective Journal

As I did photography and art in high school for 2 years and I am a first year coming straight from high school I already had a fair bit of knowledge regarding locating certain things on all adobe software such as photoshop and InDesign.  This week I focused on getting reacquainted with InDesign for layout design and Photoshop for editing imagery. Initially, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the number of tools and panels in both programs, especially remembering shortcuts and how to control things like text flow in InDesign or layer masks in Photoshop. I mainly struggled with the MAYA software and setting up all the branches of unity I needed. But due to the help of my friends in my workshop who had used this software for many years before me, I was able to overcome the obstacles I encountered. Household objects and their usability.

A Household Object I Admire – “Your Turn” Perfume Bottle created by Billie Eilish. In a world where household items are often purely functional, I find beauty in objects that merge design with meaning. One such item is the perfume bottle, “Your Turn.” This bottle is crafted to look like stacked dice, merging elegance with a playful edge. What I love about the design is how it transforms a simple perfume bottle into something more sculptural, and a work of art. The transparency of the glass creates a reflective, futuristic feel, while the text “YOUR TURN” suggests a game, a chance, or a moment of personal ritual. It feels like an intentional object, not just packaging. Functionally, the square form makes it stable on any surface, while the spray top is neatly hidden from sight. It elevates the act of putting on perfume into something performative.
